How to Open a PSD File on iPhone

You received a Photoshop file on your phone and need to see what is inside. You do not need the Photoshop app for a quick look: a browser-based PSD viewer can open many PSDs from Files or iCloud Drive and export a PNG or JPG.

Quick answer: save the PSD to Files, open freePS in Safari or Chrome, launch the editor, then choose File → Open and select the PSD. View the layers or export PNG/JPG when you are done.

Step-by-step: open a PSD on iPhone

  1. Save the PSD where the browser can find it. If it arrived in Mail, Messages, WeChat, Slack or another app, use Share or Save to move it into the Files app, iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
  2. Open freePS. Tap the button above in Safari or Chrome.
  3. Launch the editor. Dismiss any welcome card and open the file menu.
  4. Choose File → Open. Browse to the PSD and select it. Give the browser a moment to parse large layered files.
  5. Inspect the design. Use the Layers panel to check layer names, visibility and opacity where the touch layout allows.
  6. Export a shareable image. Use File → Save to create PNG or JPG, then save it to Photos or share it from the download.

What works well on iPhone — and what does not

Opening a PSD on a phone is best for quick checks: approving a layout, finding a layer, checking a logo, or exporting a flat image. Small screens and phone memory are real limits. A PSD with hundreds of high-resolution layers may load slowly or fail, and precise brush work is easier with a mouse or trackpad.

Practical advice: use iPhone for viewing and simple exports. Use a desktop browser when the file is very large, text changes are detailed, or colour accuracy matters.

If the PSD will not open

Export PNG or JPG from the PSD

After the PSD opens, decide whether you need the full design or one layer. Keep the relevant layers visible, hide anything you do not want, then export. PNG is the better choice when you need transparency; JPG is usually smaller for a photo or flat preview. The detailed workflow is in the PSD to PNG guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open a PSD on iPhone without Photoshop?
Yes. A browser viewer such as freePS can open many layered PSDs from Files or iCloud Drive.

Does the file get uploaded?
freePS parses the file locally in your browser. For the privacy details, see the no-upload PSD viewer.

Does this also work on Android?
The same browser approach generally works in Chrome on Android, although very large files still depend on device memory.

Why does the design look slightly different?
Missing fonts, complex blend modes, smart objects and adjustment layers can render differently outside Photoshop. Compare important production artwork carefully.
