Private PSD Viewer β Open PSD Files With No Upload
Most online converters make you upload the PSD first. If the file contains client work, an unreleased design or personal images, that upload is the problem. freePS takes a different route: the PSD is opened locally in your browser.
Open a PSD privately
Launch the viewer, add your file, inspect the layers and export only what you need.
π Open the Private PSD ViewerHow no-upload PSD viewing works
- The web app loads. Your browser downloads the freePS page and editing code, just like any website.
- You choose a local file. The PSD comes from your computer, phone or connected storage.
- JavaScript parses it locally. Layers are decoded and drawn in browser memory on your device.
- Exports download locally. PNG, JPG or WEBP files are generated on your device and saved by your browser.
The important distinction is not whether a website is involved β every web tool is β but whether your PSD has to be transferred to and stored by that website. With local processing, it does not.
No-upload viewer vs upload converter
| Question | No-upload browser viewer | Upload converter |
|---|---|---|
| Where is the PSD processed? | On your device | On a third-party server |
| Can you inspect individual layers? | Yes, in the layer panel | Usually no; the file is flattened |
| Best use | Client files, private designs, layer exports | Quick preview of a non-sensitive file |
| Main limit | Your device memory and browser | Upload time, server limits and privacy policy |
When this matters most
- Client and agency work: review supplied PSDs without copying them to another service.
- Unreleased products: check packaging, app screens or campaign artwork before launch.
- Personal photos: open layered edits without sending the originals away.
- Layer extraction: export only the logo, icon or image you need as a transparent PNG.
How to check the privacy claim yourself
You do not have to take any tool's word for it. In a desktop browser, open the developer tools Network panel before adding a PSD and watch whether the file is sent in an upload request. A local tool will load its app files from the web, but your PSD should not be posted to a server. Also read the freePS privacy policy and use your organisation's security rules for regulated material.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PSD files stored by freePS?
No. The PSD is parsed locally in your browser; freePS does not need to receive or store it.
Can I export PNG after viewing privately?
Yes. Use File β Save in the editor to export PNG, JPG or WEBP. The PSD to PNG guide shows the layer workflow.
Is βonlineβ automatically unsafe?
No. The question is how the tool handles the file. A client-side web app can be more private than an upload service or an unknown desktop download.
What are the limits?
Very large files depend on your device memory, and complex Photoshop features may render differently. For regulated or high-risk material, follow your employer's approved tools policy.
